EA Accession Project Phase II 2010

Phase I of the EA accession project investigated readiness in all higher education institutions in East Africa and selected the top ranked Universities to be used to develop institutional road maps on how to accession to higher levels of readiness during phase II of the project. KENET organized this workshop for all the researchers and research assistants in the five EA countries to discuss and finalize plans for Phase II of the research projects.

One of the key highlights of the workshop was an opportunity to visit some Kenyan universities and see what it practically meant to achieve higher stages of readiness in network access, networked learning and networked campus. During the workshop participants were given an opportunity to make a presentation on their NRENs or University and share experiences on some of the challenges they were currently dealing with and what strategies they had put in place to manage these challenges.

The workshop ended with a discussion on project plans and strategies. A consensus on the choice of universities selected for the project was arrived at and the project plan was shared with the participants. Finally there was a call for proposals on innovative projects by KENET to the selected universities. KENET would provide a matching grant and monitor the results over a period of one to two years.
